About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Independent Living Skills Instructors to join our team and provide essential training and assistance to adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
As an Independent Living Skills Instructor, you will play a crucial role in
helping individuals achieve greater independence while living with others or transitioning to independent living arrangements. Your expertise will contribute to the enrichment of their lives and the enhancement of their daily living skills.
Requirements
Familiarity with HUD's Section 8 Housing Program and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or
other benefits/income programs.
Experience in developing and delivering training programs or workshops.
Knowledge of person-centered planning and individualized support strategies.
Understanding of the principles of trauma-informed care and cultural sensitivity.
Key Responsibilities
Provide personalized training and support to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities in various aspects of independent living, including but not limited to money
management, shopping, meal preparation, health/medical care, laundry, advocacy, and
psycho-social support.
Develop and implement customized training plans based on the unique needs, goals, and
abilities of each individual.
Assist individuals in learning and practicing essential life skills that foster greater
independence, self-confidence, and community integration.
Collaborate with the individuals' support networks, families, and case managers to ensure
holistic and comprehensive care.
Foster a positive and supportive environment that encourages skill development, personal
growth, and self-advocacy.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of training progress, achievements, and challenges.
Stay informed about the latest best practices, resources, and tools related to independent
living skills training.
Attend team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities as
required.
