About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Personnel
to join our team and provide crucial support to adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities in establishing and maintaining independent lives within their own homes.
As a Direct Support Personnel, you will play a pivotal role in empowering
individuals to make meaningful choices, foster relationships, and participate actively in their communities. This role requires a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for those we serve.
Requirements
Experience working with adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and a strong
understanding of their unique needs.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with individuals,
families, and support agencies.
Compassionate and patient demeanor with the ability to build trust and rapport with diverse
individuals.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to manage documentation and support
plans.
Knowledge of relevant regulations, policies, and funding options related to supported living
services.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-based environment.
Proficiency in computer applications for record-keeping and communication purposes.
Key Responsibilities
Assist individuals in selecting suitable homes, considering their preferences, needs, and
budget.
Facilitate the smooth transition of individuals into their new homes, coordinating moving
logistics and ensuring a comfortable settling-in process.
Collaborate with individuals to choose personal attendants and housemates who align with
their goals and preferences.
Provide guidance and support in acquiring household furnishings and essentials to create a
comfortable living environment.
Assist individuals in participating in daily living activities, promoting independence and skill
development.
Develop and implement emergency preparedness plans to ensure the safety and well-being of
individuals in various situations.
Facilitate engagement in community life by connecting individuals with social and recreational
opportunities.
Offer guidance in managing personal financial affairs, budgeting, and accessing available
benefits and income.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of individuals' progress, goals, and support plans.
Collaborate with regional centers, In-Home Support Services, and other relevant agencies to
secure necessary funding and resources.
